Avalon
has been described as being "a truly magical place" that provides our
members with an extremely tranquil environment in which they can relax
and enjoy complete peace and quiet. The lake, which is surrounded by
an abundance of mature woodland, is currently home to approximately
three hundred and fifty pristine Common and Mirror Carp to nearly 50lb
as well as a number of hard fighting Catfish that have already exceeded
66lb.
The
lake is available to a maximum of six anglers per week and has a choice
of eight swims. Six of the swims have the benefit of a purpose built
cabin located at the water's edge. All of the cabin swims have a level
log lined rod platform that has been deliberately constructed at water
level to assist in the playing and releasing of fish. The remaining
two swims are located along the dam wall and any member wishing to fish
from this area will be provided with a bivvy at no additional cost.
All of the cabins are equipped with a three leg bedchair, reclining
carp chair and beanie unhooking mat and these items are likewise available
to use at no additional cost.
All
of the swims have been well spaced to ensure that each angler has plenty
of water to cover and further planting of bank side vegetation has been
undertaken to increase the amount of natural cover. Being stream and
spring fed the lake's water is extremely clean and oxygen levels are
always very good. The fish themselves are normally very active and will
regularly give their location away by rolling and crashing out.
In
addition to the Carp and Cats Avalon is also home to a myriad of wildlife
and you will be treated to flashes of Kingfishers, the majestic flight
of Buzzards and the gentle tap of Woodpeckers. The lake is also regularly
visited by Deer as they come to drink from the margins.
